[ARCHIVED] News Release - South 12th Street and West J Street Sewer Main Lining

PURCELLVILLE, Va. November 4, 2021 — The Town of Purcellville’s Contractor, Visu-Sewer will be lining the sewer mains on South 12th Street and West J Street. The work will begin on Monday, November 8th and the work will last through Wednesday, November 10th, between the hours of 7:00am and 9:00pm, weather permitting.  In order to conduct the sewer main lining, the contractor will be closing one lane of traffic. The town asks that only local traffic utilize South 12th Street and West J Street during these days and times.

Relining allows for renewing existing sewer without the inconvenience of conventional digging and relaying.  During this work, resident’s sewer laterals will be temporarily disconnected from the main sewer.  Relining is normally completed in one day, within two shifts.  The first shift crew installs the liner and the second shift crew reconnects the laterals to the new liner.

To avoid problems, the Town needs the cooperation of residents.  To reduce possible odors, pour approximately one gallon of water down each of your floor drains and basement sinks prior to the date/time listed above.  If your sump pump flows into the sanitary sewer, place a damp cloth over the sump/crock.   Use your toilet only if necessary and discontinue further use of all water including; washing machines, dishwashers, bath tubs, showers, sinks and sump pumps (if hooked to sanitary sewer).

Local residents are asked to be aware of work zones, drive through with caution, watch for turning or stopping vehicles, entering and exiting traffic, and to be alert for changes in traffic patterns in areas where the sewer work is being performed.
