PURCELLVILLE POLICE SERGEANT PROMOTION

PURCELLVILLE, Va., February 18, 2021 — The Purcellville Police Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Officer David A. Camp Jr. to the rank of Sergeant. He first joined the Purcellville Police Department in June of 2018, graduating from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy in December 2018. During his graduation ceremony, Camp was awarded the Thomas Shaw Award. This award is given to one individual, selected by the academy’s basic training instructors, who exhibits the most professionalism, dedication and leadership amongst the entire recruit class.

Sergeant Camp was born in Hawaii, but spent most of his life in North Carolina, where he was a law enforcement officer for ten years, holding both the rank of Officer and Sergeant, before moving to Virginia. It is during this time he honed his investigative and operational skills, which have been an asset to the Purcellville Police Department. Since joining the Purcellville Police Department, Sergeant Camp served as a patrol officer and was awarded a Bronze Medal of Valor in 2020 for his meritorious actions.  Sergeant Camp epitomizes the Department’s community policing philosophy, and is often found engaging with Purcellville residents and visitors of all ages.  Sergeant Camp is always willing to lend a hand to both community members, as well as his fellow officers.  He is known for his dependability, flexibility, and proactive approach to community outreach. The Department must always keep enough police “goodie bags” in stock when Sergeant Camp is working, since he loves to routinely hand them out to children he encounters during his shifts. Sergeant Camp enjoys putting a smile on the face of those he meets, and his infectious positive attitude assists him in usually accomplishing that mission.

The Town of Purcellville, Virginia

“Purcellville-your small Town, where history and progress intersect and people prosper,” is an award-winning town of over 10,000 residents located in Loudoun County, approximately 50 miles west of Washington, DC. Having received the prestigious Siemens Sustainability Award for Small Communities, Purcellville continues to be honored for its green initiatives with most recently being the Tree City USA recipient for the 13th year. The Town was reaffirmed as a AAA rated community by S&P Global Ratings, the highest credit rating possible, and is ranked “Safest City” in Virginia in 2020. Once a stop along the W&OD rail line, which has been converted to a multi-use trail from Alexandria, VA to Purcellville, the Town has maintained its historic old-town feel through the restoration and maintenance of its many downtown structures, reflecting the Victorian architecture popular during the early 1900s. Today, Purcellville is the economic hub of western Loudoun County and a popular weekend destination for antiquing, equestrian activities, farmer’s markets, wineries, breweries, distilleries and restaurants.
