PURCELLVILLE, Va. November 6, 2020 — There will be NO impact to the scheduled trash and recycling collection on Veteran’s Day, next Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
The Town of Purcellville would like to take this opportunity to provide an update on the change to the process for glass recycling. Previously, the glass placed in Town recycle bins was processed with all other comingled recyclable items. Unfortunately, broken glass was contaminating other recyclables causing them to be disposed of as refuse.
As a result of this change, Loudoun County launched a pilot glass recycling program. Glass collected in the pilot program will be sent to Fairfax County to be used in construction projects and possibly sent to other facilities to recycle the glass into new products. Residents may continue to recycle glass bottles and jars by dropping off their items in the large “PINK” receptacles, designated for glass, at the following recycling center locations:
- Central Western Loudoun Recycling Center, located at 38159 Colonial Highway, Hamilton
- Landfill Recycling Center, 21101 Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg
- Sterling Park Recycling Center, 400 West Laurel Avenue, Sterling
The Town would also like to remind residents to place their refuse, recyclables, yard waste, and previously scheduled special collection items curbside no later than 7:00 AM each Wednesday. Collection routes and times can vary weekly so a failure to have your materials out on time may result in non-collection.
