PURCELLVILLE, Va. April 3, 2020 — The Town of Purcellville is reminding citizens not to flush “flushable wipes”. Due to the recent demand for flushable wipes and sanitary products relating to the COVID-19 crisis, the town is reminding people to dispose of these items properly. Convenience wipes such as baby wipes and hygienic wipes, as well as paper towels, might be labeled as “disposable” or “flushable” but these products SHOULD NOT be flushed down the drain. They should be disposed of in your household or business trash receptacle. These items do not disintegrate in water the way toilet paper does. This leads to potential clogs and backups in the wastewater system throughout the town.
