PURCELLVILLE, Va. November 7, 2019 — The Town of Purcellville is excited to announce a new financial transparency platform, Transparency-Purcellville. The Town is committed to honest budgeting, responsible spending, and financial transparency. In this spirit, the Town has partnered with our financial software provider, Tyler Technologies, to provide our citizens and stakeholders interactive access to financial information via the Open Finance product.
The portal reflects Town Council’s promise to citizens to provide accountability and transparency in all decisions. “This democratization of data further increases transparency and enables our citizens to analyze Purcellville financial data without outside help to see how their precious tax dollars are being spent,” said Mayor Kwasi Fraser.
This platform pulls financial data directly from the Town’s financial system and provides users the opportunity to view, filter, and analyze revenue, operating budget and vendor data. Visitors can examine the Town’s revenue sources, operating budget and vendor payments at various levels of detail such as fund, function, department, expenditure type and checkbook displays. Options are also available to share or download data for further analysis. The site can be found at https://www.purcellvilleva.gov/801/Fiscal-Transparency and data is refreshed weekly.
According to the Town Manager, David Mekarski, the new transparency portal will also lead to operational efficiencies. “In addition to transparency and accountability, the new financial transparency platform will save the Town in administrative costs associated with processing requests for information for financial data. With the system online, individuals anywhere around the world can download detailed financial data, which customarily would have required multiple individuals from the Town’s staff to process.”
