[ARCHIVED] News Release - Purcellville House Fire that Displaces Five Under Investigation

PURCELLVILLE, Va. JUNE 28, 2019 – Just After 8:00 p.m. on June 26, 2019, Fire and Rescue units responded to an incident in the 400 block of Heronwood Court in the Town of Purcellville. On their way to the incident, supplemental information confirmed there was a single family home with significant fire showing from the first floor. The incident was upgraded bringing additional fire and rescue crews from Round Hill, Hamilton, Philomont, Leesburg, units Lovettsville, Loudoun Heights, Lucketts and Clarke County and the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office.


Police and Fire units began to arrive within three minutes of being dispatched and observed a subject suffering significant burn injuries emerge from the residence. A Purcellville Police Officer and several bystanders immediately assisted the injured resident until the arrival of emergency medical personnel.


Firefighters immediately observed that the one-story, single family dwelling had active fire and smoke showing. Crews quickly made their way into the residence, confirming no additional occupants remained inside, and extinguished the fire within 15 minutes of their arrival. Rescue units immediately began treating two adults with burn injuries, one critical. Both patients were transported to the Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.


Due to the extent of fire damage a total of five occupants have been displaced. The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office in cooperation with the Purcellville Police Department are currently investigating the incident.
