PURCELLVILLE, VA. November 29, 2018 - As a result of community feedback and Mayor Fraser's outreach with Supervisor Buffington to VDOT about interim solutions to the traffic issues at the 287 North and Route 7 West intersection, we are pleased to report that an interim is scheduled to be in place within the coming weeks. VDOT engineers have reviewed the signal hardware at this intersection and determined that one of the existing signal heads for northbound Route 287 can be replaced with a combination signal head. This modification will include a left turn arrow without having to rebuild poles and mast arms. This will allow the northbound drivers a distinct indication when the left turns can be made without conflict from southbound traffic and when they have to yield. VDOT has discussed this with County staff and will utilize VDOT resources to make these changes. Weather permitting, the VDOT crew plans to implement this improvement in the coming weeks in coordination with our Public Works team.
This is an interim solution while we await the permanent solution for which Supervisor Buffington was able to successfully secure $11 Million in funding for. The permanent solution will include turn lanes and other longer term improvements.
