[ARCHIVED] News Release - Tree Removal at Fireman's Field

PURCELLVILLE, Va. July 12, 2018 — On Monday, July 16, 2018, the Town of Purcellville’s Tree Contractor, Arbogast Lawn and Tree Inc. will be removing two Oak Trees and a Locust Tree at Fireman’s Field. These trees has been identified by our arborist as decaying and/or dying.

The entrance to Fireman’s Field via South 20th Street will be closed while the work is being performed. Work is expected to begin at 9:00 am and last several hours. Please use caution when approaching the working crews and only pass when safe and legal. Residents are asked to be aware of work zones, drive with caution, watch for turning or stopping vehicles including construction equipment, and to be alert for changes in traffic patterns in areas where the tree removal is being performed.

The 13-acre Fireman’s Field Park is located in the Purcellville Historic District and contains the town’s most significant remaining urban forest populated with trees ranging in size from small dogwoods to centuries old white oaks.

While it saddens us to have to remove the trees, per the arborist’s report, one new tree will be planted near the South 20th Street entrance to the Fireman’s Field parking lot to allow the next generations to continue to enjoy the beauty of the trees located within Fireman’s Field.
