[ARCHIVED] News Release - Applications Now Being Accepted for Purcellville's Annual 4th of July Parade

PURCELLVILLE, Va. May 22, 2018 — The Purcellville Volunteer Fire Company and the Town of Purcellville are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted to participate in the annual Independence Day Parade. There is no cost to participate. Completed applications are due June 25. The parade will kick off at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4th. Show your patriotic pride with family, friends, and neighbors and join in America’s birthday celebration! Applications can be downloaded from the Town’s website on the Holiday Events and Activities page.

“Stars and Stripes” has been selected as the 2018 parade theme. Participants are encouraged to include a creative patriotic theme, music, special effects, and other crowd-pleasing elements to their parade entries. The top three patriotic entries will receive a ribbon and a banner to display throughout the parade. Winners will be chosen by the Independence Day Parade Citizen Volunteer group. Again this year, The Purcellville Gazette will hand off the "Liberty Cup" which is currently in the possession of the 2017 top winning entry, the Makersmiths, to the new 2018 winner.

The parade route starts on Orchard Avenue, turns right onto Main Street, followed by a left onto Maple Avenue, and concludes at Loudoun Valley High School. The parade route will be closed from approximately 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. to through traffic. As a convenience for families with small children or those with sensitive hearing, a “quiet zone” will be designated on Main Street along the parade route. Marked by signage, the quiet zone is a section of the parade route void of canon fire, sirens, and loud music from participants.
