PURCELLVILLE, Va. January 26, 2018 — The Town of Purcellville has received twenty-nine (29) applications from twelve (12) states and one foreign country in response to a national recruitment effort to fill the position of Town Manager. The Council, at their January 23, 2018 meeting, heard a report on a proposed interview and selection process from Interim Town Manager John Anzivino who outlined a multi-step interview process involving Town department heads and the Mayor and Council. The process outlined, and accepted by the Mayor and Council, includes a first round of interviews with candidates identified by the Mayor and Council as besting fitting the Council’s identified criteria for the position. The department heads will be evaluating the Council identified candidates in conjunction with their technical background and skills, as well as perceived ’fit’ with the community. Comments from staff will be provided to the Mayor and Council who will use the staff’s information as one component of their overall evaluation of the candidates.
The Mayor and Council will also interview the candidates who have met with staff and will further gauge the candidate’s fit with the Town, their technical abilities, management experience and presentation skills as they relate to the requirements for the position and Purcellville’s current and future challenges and unique qualities. It is anticipated that the Mayor and Council will, at this stage of the process, narrow the candidate pool to the top one to three candidates and conduct a final series of discussions with the narrower pool of candidates. The final stage of the process will focus on discussions with the top ranked candidate concerning the candidate’s expectations with an announcement of the appointment of a new Town Manager during the first week of March, 2018. Mayor Kwasi Fraser commented that,” The Town Council has developed a comprehensive process for interviewing the candidates for the Manager’s position which includes the Town’s department heads as we strive to identify the candidate which best matches the identified knowledge, skills and abilities for the position as well as the ‘best fit’ with the Purcellville community, the Town Council and our staff.”
