PURCELLVILLE, Va., January 8, 2018 — The Purcellville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board invites you and your family to join them for their new series of monthly nature walks starting on Sunday, January 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. at. Each of the walks will be led by local experts, usually at the Chapman DeMary Trail—the last stand of old-growth forest in Town and for which the Town of Purcellville holds the conservation easement. The Chapman DeMary Trail is located behind the building at 205 East Hirst Road in Purcellville.
The monthly series will kick off on January 28 with a forest interpretation walk led by the Virginia Department of Forestry. Throughout 2018, the Virginia Department of Forestry will lead four of the 12 walks, one each season. Area Forester, Kyle Dingus, will show you what the forest is “doing” each season while sharing information about tree identification, wildlife habitat, ecology, and the watershed. Other local organizations and experts will lead additional walks with topics such as pollinators and monarchs, wildflowers, birds, water quality, and more. These will be held the last Sunday of each month.
