PURCELLVILLE, Va. March 14, 2017 — The Town of Purcellville is pleased to announce that trash and recycling will be collected tomorrow, Wednesday, March 15, as normally scheduled. Every attempt will be made by the contractor to reach all streets. While we have been able to open all Town maintained streets, the contractor may not be able to reach areas of private streets that have not been properly plowed by others. In these areas, service will resume next week.
NOTE: Please do not place refuse and recycling containers in the roadways. Your safety and the safety of our contractors is our top priority.
As a further reminder, The Town of Purcellville has experienced multiple instances of record high winds over the last few months. As a result, we have noticed an increase in blowing debris and litter on trash and recycling day, Wednesday. In conjunction with the Town’s refuse and recycling contractor, American Disposal Services, we would like to ask for your assistance to ensure that debris and loose items are secured.
Tips to help avoid issues during windy periods:
Do not overfill recycling bin.
Package items in paper bags in your recycling bin, rolling down top of bag to secure materials.
Stack heavier rolled down paper bags on top of other material in the bin.
Place bundled and tied newspapers on top of material in the bin.
Flatten cardboard boxes and place them under the recycling bin.
Put excess recycling material in clear plastic bags or cardboard boxes with the
top securely closed.
Clearly label any extra boxes or containers as “RECYCLING”. Stickers are available at the Town Hall.
If you are interested in obtaining a 65-gallon wheeled recycling tote with a lid, contact American Disposal Services at 1-866-884-8700.
Thank you for your efforts to help to keep Purcellville free of debris.
