[ARCHIVED] News Release - Tree to be Trimmed in Town

PURCELLVILLE, Va. December 5, 2016 — In an effort to provide reliable electricity in a safe and economical manner, Dominion Power’s tree contractor, Asplundh Tree Expert Company, will be providing vegetation management through tree pruning and brush control along the overhead high voltage lines within the Town of Purcellville. Although overhead lines may not be directly on your property, they are providing power to your home and the neighborhood. Vegetation management helps to ensure your safety as well as proactively improving service for the reasons below:

  • Maintaining safe distances between vegetation and power lines – Vegetation near power lines has the potential to conduct electricity and contact with vegetation that is touching power lines could cause injury or death.
  • Removing dead, diseased, or leaning trees that could fall on power lines – Trees and limbs contacting electric lines are a leading cause of power outages. Adverse weather conditions can cause limbs to bend or break and make contact with power lines, which may result in service interruptions.
