PURCELLVILLE, Va. November 17, 2016—On Sunday, November 6th 2016, the Town of Purcellville, in conjunction with The Nature Generation, hosted the 2nd Annual Hail to the Trail event. Over 100 attendees enjoyed a perfect fall day filled with a multitude of activities focused on nature and the environment. In addition to the outdoor fun and festivities, the Town celebrated Arbor Day and was awarded the Tree City USA designation for the ninth year.
As part of the Arbor Day festivities, Mayor Kwasi Fraser planted three red bud trees with assistance from children from the group and read the 2016 Arbor Day Proclamation. Jim McGlone from the Department of Forestry was on hand to speak about the significance of trees and presented the Tree City USA award to Mayor Kwasi Fraser.
Mayor Fraser stated, "We thank the Department of Forestry for recognizing Purcellville's commitment to environmental awareness and stewardship. Our trails are vital assets and over the next six months our Council will champion efforts to enhance and connect our trails."
