Purcellville Sports Grant

The Purcellville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is now accepting applications from local organizations for the Annual Sports League Funding. The due date for applications is January 31, 2019 by 5 p.m. To be eligible for funding, applicant organizations must serve the Town of Purcellville area, have citizens of the Town of Purcellville as players, and provide a letter to the Town from the IRS confirming the organization’s tax exempt status. Priority consideration will be given to sports teams from Purcellville that have an open participation policy where all players are allowed to play regardless of skill level.

Please read the eligibility requirements below:

Pursuant to Va. Code 15.2-953, applicant must certify that each of the following scenarios are true and provide a letter to the Town from the IRS confirming the organization’s tax exempt status in order to be eligible for funding. All of the following criteria must be met. 

• The applicant certifies that it is a youth sports or recreational organization exempt from taxation under the Internal Revenue Code

• The applicant certifies that it is not controlled in whole or in part by a church, a religious organization, a sectarian society (exclusive of the YMCA, the YWCA, Habitat for Humanity, and the Salvation Army)

• The applicant certifies that it has submitted to the Town a letter from the IRS confirming the current exempt status of the organization

• The applicant certifies that the youth sports or recreational organization applying for grant funds has t and will not, directly or indirectly, participate in, or intervene in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Such participation or intervention includes campaign contributions, public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the youth sports organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office, voter education or registration activities with evidence of bias that (a) would favor one candidate over another; (b) oppose a candidate in some manner; or (c) have the effect of favoring a candidate or group of candidates.
