Curbside Recycling
Wednesday
Single stream recycling has been implemented in the Town of Purcellville. Since all recyclables can now be collected together, American Disposal Services can use the same type of truck that is used for trash collection. This does not mean that recyclables are being trashed. They are taken to a material recovery facility (MRF) where they are processed & separated as feedstock for re-manufacture into new products.
The following guidelines should be observed when putting out your recyclables (NO PLASTIC BAGS):
Commingled Containers
- Glass bottles & jars
- Aluminum & steel cans
- Food & beverage containers
- Plastic bottles & jugs
Thoroughly rinse & drain containers (Tubs & wide-neck containers are NOT acceptable; number on glass & plastics no longer important.)
|
Fiber - Tied and bundled
- Newspapers/magazines
- Phone books/junk mail
- Cracker/cereal boxes
- Corrugated boxes 3x3 pieces
Flatten corrugated boxes & place beneath recycling bin
|
Any items not on the above lists should be disposed of as trash.
Single stream recycling is easier & more convenient for residents. Hopefully, this will encourage more participation and result in a significant increase in the amount of materials recycled.
Recycling bins and “RECYCLE” stickers are available in limited supply. Please contact Marty Kloeden 540-751-2345 or the Town Hall at 540-338-7421.
